A Note on our Double Play Terms
“Double Play” is a two-week term in which the camper comes the last two weeks of a three-week term (for 1st and 3rd term). We generally offer Double Play only during our first and third terms, but this year we are also offering a Double Play session during the first two weeks of 2nd term. We created the term as a “starter term” for campers and/or parents for whom three weeks seems like a long time. We find that the majority of campers attending Double Play wish they had come the entire three weeks once they see how fun and exciting camp is. With this in mind, we provide a special price to first-time campers to attend Double Play.
Our experience shows us that Double Play is a very good option for first-time, younger campers (1st-4th grade), but becomes less effective for older campers. This is for two reasons.
First, the vast majority of our older campers come for three weeks. If a 6th grader attends as a Double Play camper, he or she is most often the only new camper in the cabin.
Second, as campers become older, their social behavior becomes more sophisticated. They spend the first week determining who they want to hang out with and establishing cabin norms. While the counselor is very important in forming these norms, it is beneficial for campers to take an everincreasing role in the process as they mature. With this in mind, a camper that joins an older cabin on the 6th day must work extra hard to integrate into the cabin. Also, this integration process can become somewhat of a distraction for the existing campers.
In younger cabins, the social structure is looser. Also, there are more Double Play campers to integrate, so the process is much easier.
After observing for over a decade, we have come to the conclusion that the Double Play for older campers affects the quality of the camp experience for both the Double Play campers and those already in the cabins. As a result, we limit our Double Play to campers finishing the 4th grade or younger. We also want to strongly recommend that returning campers attend for a full three weeks.
We remain committed to our pledge to be “partners in the parenting process”. We would be delighted to talk with you about your circumstances if you believe that an exception is appropriate. As always, we welcome any comments and suggestions. Warmest regards!

A Great Value!

Dollar for dollar, Camp Champions is one of the best camp values you’ll find anywhere. Aside from the great activities and high-quality counselors, we include many other extras you’d pay additionally for at other camps. What do we mean? Ask your friends who send their kids to other camps how much they pay in extra fees to get all of THIS!
Uniforms: Every camper receives a pair of uniform shorts and 2 uniform t-shirts. Campers use these primarily for the yearbook pictures and for special events. They look great to wear at home too!
Kneeman Markus: Our camp store operates on a merit-based system called the Champ system. Campers earn champs at camp by doing great things – making their bed well at inspection, volunteering to help with cabin chores, etc. Each week they get the opportunity to spend what they’ve earned at our camp store, Kneeman Markus. No need for money at camp – CHAMPS only!
Pictures: You’ll go home with an 8×10 shot of your child’s cabin group!
Yearbook/DVD: Around December, every camper receives both a handsome hardcover yearbook (perhaps the most impressive camp yearbook in the country) as well as a yearbook DVD with footage from their term. The DVD is high-quality and a lot of fun, while the hardcover yearbook will be treasured for years to come! (Footage also available on VHS video)
Laundry: We send every camper’s laundry out once a week to our laundry service. Clothes get washed, dried, folded and returned the following day. Do items ever get mixed up? Sure, and occasionally a dryer eats a sock, but overall our service does a great job!
CamParent: The web site that keeps you in touch with what’s happening at camp comes with no strings – and no extra fees – attached! Pictures, articles and more while your camper is at Champions – it’s almost like going to camp with your child!
We accept MasterCard and Visa over the phone for deposit only.
