We are parents, too. We understand that being a parent is one of the greatest joys in life, but also that it is a job that cannot be done alone.
We appreciate those people who have taken an interest in helping our children grow. We want to do the same for yours.
There may be no better place to help children grow than summer camp. Camp is more than just fun—it is youth development.
We believe this completely; we are “all in”—100% committed to understanding the role camp plays in the growth of our children.
In 2011, Steve was asked to blog for Psychology Today. In 2012, he was invited to talk at TEDx.
In 2013, Steve was asked to speak at his 20th Harvard reunion as an expert on parenting.
We work closely with Dr. Thompson to advance our understanding of the developmental role that camp plays. He believes that many skills that predict for success are best learned at summer camp.
Dr. Thompson champions summer camp as a unique place where children are stretched in confidence and independence. They hone interpersonal skills while living in a cabin full of peers without the distractions of technology.
We partnered with Dr. Thompson to put on a three day speaking tour in Austin, Dallas, and Houston, sharing his argument that some of the greatest maturation of a child’s life can occur away from home at summer camp.
In addition to the work we do here at Camp Champions, our full-time team is also committed to the national camp industry. We deeply believe in the camp experience and want to help all camps improve every year.
We are committed to helping educate the public about the youth development benefits of a quality camp experience.
Here are a few things we have done.
You know your child better than anyone.
We understand the power of camp better than anyone.
Together, amazing growth can happen as we create a mutual investment in your child’s future.
We encourage you to share as much information with us as possible. We believe in honest and open communication. We will call you at the end of the first week to give you an update. We will encourage you to share your thoughts and concerns.
We post over 200 photos and 3-5 articles every day to help you understand your child’s experience. We were a pioneer of this idea, and were even featured in the Wall Street Journal way back in 1999. Is it easy to do this? No, but it is worth it to make sure that our parents feel connected to camp and their child’s experience.
Part of our partnership is the Four R’s: Responsibility, Respect, Reasonable Risks, and Reaching Out to Others—all of our campers know them. We share your values and believe that the Four R’s are a simple way to reinforce them while your child is at camp.
If you know your child better than anyone, and we know camps as well as anyone, we ought to be able to put our heads together to create the best possible experience for your child.
We would love for your child to experience what we do at Camp Champions, but we will also tell you if we think we are not the best camp option for you and your family.
Use the button below to schedule a 15-minute camper assessment to help us learn about your child’s skills and strengths, your goals for them at camp, and any concerns you might have about choosing the right camp. We can’t wait to talk to you!
