We are excited that you are considering Camp Champions for your child!
We would like to introduce ourselves and tell you a little about the camp. We live at the camp year round with our 4 children (twin boys Wiley and Liam (10), and daughters Terrill (8) and Virginia (5) and Camp Champions is our passion. After attending business school (Steve at Harvard and Susie at Kellogg), we have committed ourselves to creating an extraordinary place to serve families.
We start with a powerful PHILOSOPHY . Our mission states that “it is our passion to help every camper grow into the CHAMPION God intends him or her to be”. By “champion”, we mean someone that understands that life is a fantastic gift and that the world is a better place if it is lived with passion, service and joy. Our campers have a complete BLAST at camp, but we know camp is also a safe and supportive place to grow in skills, build confidence and make powerful friends. We also stress the Four R’s: taking Responsibility, showing Respect for others, Reaching out to others and taking reasonable Risks.
Being a parent is a real challenge today and we all need allies to help us do the best job possible with our precious kiddos. We (Steve and Susie) deeply appreciate the teachers, coaches, friends and other young and old adults that support our efforts with our children. With this in mind, we want to be a “partner in the parenting process” with you.
How do we do this?
We start with great PEOPLE . In addition to the two of us , we have 5 full-time directors and a committed support team of 10 who all love what we do! This team works year round developing great programs, studying the best ideas of other camps, recruiting great families and finding extraordinary counselors . We are aware of no camp that spends more time recruiting, training or supporting its counselors. We pour our efforts into these excellent young men and women, and we hold them to high standards. For example, our entire staff agrees to abstain from drinking alcohol for the duration of the summer – not because we are prohibitionists, but because it is OK to hold yourself to a higher standard when you are a potential hero to a child!
We also have a wonderful PLACE . Situated on 90 acres on Lake LBJ, we have fields, cabins, docks, trails and everything else needed to create a paradise of fun activities, special memories and new friends.
Finally, we take our philosophy, our people and our place and combine them with a great PROGRAM . In our 40 years of continuous operation, we have created a program full of traditions and great activities. From waterskiing to horses to sports to crafts to climbing walls to archery, we have over 30 activities to challenge and delight our campers. Our evening and special activities provide a sense of magic and community that all our campers participate in.
