Alumni, we know it’s been a while since we last posted a yearbook and we don’t want to make you wait any longer! And now we turn back to the beginning of the 80′s…
- Moak Sir graduates High School! It would be 17 years before he would join the Camp Champions team.
- Pac Man is released, and later becomes one of the most famous video games of all time! Ms. Pac Man is not far behind, and everyone loves this female character! You could play this game endlessly, really.
- CNN becomes the first 24 hour cable news station
- US boycotts the Moscow Olympics. A boycott is led in retaliation by the Soviet Union 3 years later.
- Fax machines become a domestic item. Remember those?
- John Lennon is shot.
- Queen releases “Another One Bites the Dust”
- The U.S. population was 227,224,681 now it is 310,916,437. My, how we’ve grown!
- Postage costs 15 cents. Now, in 2010, it’s 44 cents and most children don’t even know how to address or stamp an envelope.
- Mexico is home to the first ever panda born in captivity
- Miracle On Ice.. Enough said.
It was an eventful year, and we hope that this yearbook brings back fond memories of the summer at CC on Lake LBJ! 1980_THE_TORCH_CAMP_CHAMPIONS.pdf

Summer is getting closer. All of the talk about how camp is close must make you nostalgic! Think about a time when:
- Margaret Thatcher is elected Prime minister of the UK
- The Walkman is released at a cost of $200. The Walkman plays one cassette tape at a time, now we have IPods for less money that play 30 hours of music at a time
- First snowboard is invented
- Trivial Pursuit is launched as a nerds revenge, knowing random facts is now considered a plus at dinner parties
- The first modern Bungee Jump is performed, a very brave person agrees to be the first person to ever bungee jump!
- Superman the movie is released
- Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” tops the charts
- Charlie’s Angels hits the TV
To help you memorize all of this, just picture Margaret Thatcher listening to “I Will Survive” on her brand new Walkman . . . While riding a snowboard. Meanwhile, the three Charlie’s Angels are playing Superman in Trivia Pursuit. No one is bungee jumping.
Picture the image in you mind. There will be a test later.
Enjoy your 1979 yearbook!

For all you children of the 80′s here is another, never before published online, yearbook. Straight from the Camp Champions Vault!
- The US Stock Market crashes on “Black Monday.” Steve Sir was actually working at Goldman Sachs and saw a LOT of freaked out traders. At least the markets have stabilized since then! What? They have been doing what? Never mind.
- The population of the world reaches five billion, most of whom visit the malls after Thanksgiving
- Kitty Litter is invented and cats get to watch humans scoop away waste. Seriously, if space aliens landed on Earth, we would be hard-pressed to convince them that humans and not cats, rule the world.
- The Simpsons is seen on TV for the first time. Of course, this means that there was a time when the Simpsons were NOT on TV. Bet your children will NOT believe this one!
- U2′s “With or Without You” tops the charts. So U2 has been around even longer than the Simpsons. Of course, they will even make an appearance on the animated show, thus completing the circle of life.
- Fatal Attraction is a hit movie, thereby reducing the popularity of bunny rabbits as pets.
